Three of my children have all moved from the crib to ‘big kid’ beds. Lizzie moved because Evelyn needed the crib. Evelyn moved when Will was big enough to sleep away from Mom and Dad’s room. Will moved out of the crib first because Casey needed it but second because he kept climbing out of it and falling. I was afraid he was going to break something.
Casey is also the only kid who doesn’t come running into my room in the morning to ask me “Is it morning time?” or to exclaim “I woke up!” I have to pick him up out of the crib. This has to be one of my favorite parts of every day. I walk into to his room and he is very happy to see me. I pick him up and he nuzzles his head into my neck. Then there that is that moment, the single moment I will cherish long after he moves into the ‘big kid’ bed. Casey takes his sweet hand and pats me on the back.
Not a big pat like he is trying to help me cough, but a little pat like “there, there mom, it will be ok.” The moment is very brief because it is usually interrupted by a sibling wanting to play or his own need for juice or wanting to run.
Let’s face it, they grow up to fast. Snuggle when you can.
